Exemption from an application deadline

Once the application deadlines have expired, it is generally not possible to submit an application or its supporting documents. However, if you have experienced extraordinary circumstances, you may be exempted from the application deadline.

When can you be exempted from an application deadline?

To be granted an exemption from an application deadline, you must have experienced circumstances beyond your control that prevented you from submitting your application on time.

Examples of circumstances beyond your control that may justify an exemption:

  • Sudden serious illness or accident
    - You must provide documentation showing that the illness or accident was so severe that you could not meet the deadline.
    - We will assess whether there is a clear connection between your illness/accident and the missed deadline, and whether it would have been possible to plan around the situation (e.g., by applying in advance or seeking help from your network).
  • Serious illness or death in the immediate family
    - You must document how your situation was affected by your relative’s condition.
    - Documentation of your relative’s illness or death can be included as supplementary evidence but is not sufficient on its own.

To apply for an exemption, you must submit relevant documentation, such as a medical certificate.

Examples of circumstances that do not qualify for an exemption:

  •  Delay, negligence or being unaware of the specific deadline
  • Personal IT issues
  • Short-term illnesses, such as the flu

When evaluating your request, we consider how quickly you contacted us after missing the deadline.
