To a large extent, the work with quality in education at the Faculty of Science is done in cooperation between the study administration and the study management, including the study board, the teaching committee and heads of studies. At the same time, the quality policy is sometimes implemented in the activities of the individual teachers.
Our implementation of SDU’s quality policy is described in our implementation note. In some cases, this has been supplemented by local guidelines and descriptions of how various constituent parts of the quality policy are being implemented in practice. Overall, the work with quality in education follows an annual cycle.
At the Faculty of Science, the organisation of our quality work reflects the existing management structure.
The dean has the overall responsibility for the quality of the faculty's degree programmes.
The day-to-day educational management is handled by the vice-dean for education . The vice-dean cooperates with the faculty's Education Committee, which consists of heads of studies, study board chairs, programme representatives and a representative of the faculty administration.
The key players in the quality work at the Faculty of Science are:
- The dean and the faculty management, who link the faculty's quality work to SDU's management and SDU's Education Council
- Study boards and teaching committees, who ensure a democratic element and student participation
- Subject leaders and teachers, who have an executive role in relation to the execution and planning of teaching
- The Education Committee, who have a coordinating function and must ensure that cross-disciplinary educational themes are addressed
- The quality coordinator, who is in charge of the quality work
The faculty's work with quality in education follows an annual cycle, which has a certain overlap with the annual cycles of the study boards.
The annual cycle must ensure that recurring activities in the work of ensuring and developing quality in education are carried out on time and with the involvement of relevant actors.
The topics in the annual cycle are the following:
- Execution and processing of evaluations
- Details from plan for education report and status meetings
- Follow-up meetings or -periods
- Deadlines for quality policy reports
- Updates or reviews of documents
- General follow-up on the constituent parts of the quality policy
The educational report is a key tool.
The Faculty of Science primarily uses the educational report process to follow up on the constituent parts of the quality policy.
In addition, there is an ongoing assurance that each constituent part is executed, implemented or adjusted.
Typically, the teaching committees start by processing the results at programme-leven, and then the study boards pick up on this and look at whether there are any general themes that should be addressed.
