New SDU master’s programme off to a flying start
The new Master’s in Supply Chain Digitalisation at SDU Sønderborg has launched far better than expected. At the same time, the centre behind the programme has attracted high-profile researchers from abroad, strengthening research, teaching, and collaboration with industry.
When the Master’s in Supply Chain Digitalisation was planned, the target was 15 students in the first year. Interest has exceeded all expectations: 21 students have begun the programme in Sønderborg, where digitalisation and sustainability meet in one of the industry’s most in-demand disciplines.
“We’ve had a firm start,” says Elias Ribeiro da Silva, Associate Professor at the Department of Technology and Innovation and Programme Director.
“It tells us that the need for digital competencies in supply chains is massive—and that both students and companies immediately see the relevance.”
International researchers setting the direction
The programme is anchored in the Centre for Supply Chain Digitalisation, which has undergone a significant international build-up.
Three new researchers have already been hired—from Sweden, Canada, and internally from SDU—with two more on the way. The new colleagues will strengthen research and teaching across AI, simulation, sustainable supply chains, and data governance.
“We’ve assembled a team that combines technological insight with experience from real production environments,” says Elias Ribeiro da Silva.
“That means our students work on the same challenges companies face right now.”
Closer ties to industry
The first collaborations with companies are already underway. Local partners have contributed cases that will be integrated into teaching, and several guest speakers from Danish companies are bringing real-world experience to the classroom from the first semester.
“Our goal is for digitalisation not just to be a topic in the classroom, but a tool that delivers concrete improvements in supply chains,” says Elias Ribeiro da Silva.
Sønderborg as an epicentre for green and digital transition
The programme is part of SDU Sønderborg’s strategy to connect research, education, and business in a unified effort for the green and digital transformation.
“We see Sønderborg as a laboratory for the industry of the future, where companies, researchers, and students work together to find solutions that both strengthen competitiveness and reduce climate impact. So if you’re in a company with a project our students should tackle, don’t hesitate to contact me,” says Elias Ribeiro da Silva.
