Corona FAQ and guidelines

As a PhD-student at the Faculty of Health, SDU you may be part of the management of the COVID19 crisis. This can be in three ways:

1. You are asked to stay prepared, but you are not yet active.

  • Your PhD continues unchanged.

2. You are prepared and active with some extra shifts in the clinic or similar.

  • Your contribution in the crisis response is considered as an extra job. The Graduate School of Health accepts during the COVID-crisis up to 40 hours per month of additional work.

3. You are active and contributing to the crisis response with more than 40 hours per month.

  • Achieve documentation from the relevant workplace, typical clinical- or university department, on the number of full-time days you are working as a COVID19 resource. If you are part-time employed, you must convert the number of hours/shifts to full-time days.
  • Apply ASAP by the standard form for extension. The time for your enrollment will be extended accordingly.
  • Be aware of your salary during your time as an active COVID19 resource. You must reserve your research budget for an extended enrollment. Consult your SDU department for advice. The Graduate School has no budgets to cover enrolment extensions!

Yes, the Graduate School is open, and can be contacted by e-mail and telephone during the usual opening hours; 9-12 and 12.30-14.

It is still possible to conduct PhD defenses, but please make sure to follow all current restrictions and guidelines. SDU's guidelines can be found here.

The Faculty of Health Sciences highly recommends using Zoom for digital defenses. If you chose to use another system for a digital defense, the Graduate School cannot offer IT-support.

Please see the guidelines for digital defense here

During the COVID19 crisis, you may have been required to take on additional work than planned – if this is the case; contact the Graduate School to apply for an extension of your PhD period or leave of absence. You can find application forms here.

The Graduate School can only extend the enrollment, and not your employment. The place of employment may extend the employment – that is typically the hospital department or University department.

Additional work due to the COVID19 crisis will be accepted as a valid cause for the extension of the PhD period.  As always, applications will be handled individually.

If you have less than 6 months left before your submission date and have been unable to obtain the required 30 ECTS points due to the COVID19 situation, please contact the Graduate School (phd@health.sdu.dk), so we may help you find a solution.

Under the above mentioned circumstances, it may be possible to obtain extra ECTS points for international conferences attend during your enrollment, even conferences where you have not been an active participant. The arrangement is temporary!
