Classes from 1 February to 29 May.
Exams in June.
No TOEFL or IELTS tests are required for students from partner universities.
General prerequisites from home university
- Bachelor-level courses: 2 years of previous studies (approximately 120 ECTS passed)
- Master-level courses: 3 years of previous studies (approximately 180 ECTS passed)
You can design you own course of study and choose among all courses in the course list, as long as you meet any academic prerequisites.
Expect possible course changes if courses conflict in your final timetable. This especially applies if you choose courses from different academic areas, for example Biology and Physics.
As an exchange student you will have to find the courses requested from your home university by yourself.
But in the course list there are direct links to course descriptions, making this process easier for you.
You will be able to change courses until two weeks after the semester has started.
This will leave you time to solve issues such as timetable conflicts and also attend the first lesson to get an idea of levels and subjects.

Normally it will be possible to follow a course at one of the other faculties. It will have to be approved by the faculty offering the course.
Timetable conflicts might occur.
The workload of a semester for exchange students is limited to:
- 20-30 ECTS for EU students
- Exactly 30 ECTS credits for overseas students
Timetables will be available just before the start of the semester.
You will be able to find the timetable on MySDU, the website for active students at SDU.
It is possible to do theses or projects at the Faculty of Science, as long as the relevant programme can offer a supervisor within the subject. There is no guarantee to be accepted, but the majority of proposals so far have been accepted.
Writing a thesis at the Faculty of Science does not entitle you to get a degree from SDU. As an exchange student at SDU, you will most likely also have to defend your thesis at your home university.
Yes, it is possible to stay as an exchange student for two semesters if your home university allows it.
It is not recommended to arrive late for introduction days and semester start. All important information will be given during introduction days in the beginning of the semester.
If, for some reason, you cannot attend the introduction days, we would like you to inform us before arrival.
At the Faculty of Science you will meet many different exam forms – oral exams are quite common in Denmark.
Please note that exam dates cannot be changed based on requests of individual students. Therefore, please do not book your tickets to go home before the examination plans have been announced.
All exchange students will be allowed to register for re-exams within the same exam period.
However, the actual date of the re-exam will typically be in the beginning of the following semester.
In order to activate and engage students in learning, classes at the Faculty of Science are based on dialogue between the teacher and the students.
Students are urged to speak freely and take part in discussions, as well as asking questions for a better understanding.
So please expect more than just to sit and listen to the teacher.
