What do I learn?
During your studies in software engineering, you learn to develop state-of-the-art software products and services. Simultaneously, you will be able to improve the products and services we know today.
You will learn how technology is best used to develop efficient and engaging solutions – not only from a technical point of view but also from a user perspective. The teaching will integrate research to learn you how to create and work critically and expertly with knowledge in complex technical contexts.
The studies will provide you with knowledge of advanced theories and methods in software engineering, programming and information technologies. How to apply these skills in different business and societal contexts based on a solid engineering foundation and practice understanding.
You will specialize in software engineering with hands-on experience in designing cyber-secure and data intelligent industrial systems that provide innovative features with adaptive intelligence with a high security level. It prepares you to engineer systems with data pipelines and artificial intelligence components and state-of-the-are cyber-security features.
You will be particularly strong in creating industrial systems with novel features in small to large organizations regardless of the domain of application.
Versatile career paths
Already during your studies we enable different career paths focusing on industry, start-ups or knowledge institutions. We have study elements that enable you to explore how it is to apply your knowledge in industry, try to create a start-up or do research. We also offer a special industrial research programme which is carried out in close cooperation with a company where you are employed.
With a master degree in Software Engineering you will have a range of job opportunities – in Denmark and abroad. You can go into many different sectors including healtcare, finance, energy, creative industries and ICT.
You can also take up many different roles ranging from technology roles (systems developer, software engineer), management roles (software architect, product manager) to cross-cutting roles (product owner, data scientists, UX designer). It is also possible to continue on a three-year research programme which will lead to a PhD degree.
Become a world champion in entrepreneurship
In Software Engineering, you can pursue your entrepreneurial dreams. Graduates Mikkel Bytoft Rasmussen and Mads Lorentzen, like several former students, have chosen to pursue the dream of starting their own business. The two engineers therefore founded the company, HumAid, in 2022, which works to make communication easier between the deaf and the hearing.
The company was established in the university's entrepreneurial environment, Startup Station, and has since won two world championships in entrepreneurship at the University Startup World Cup.
