Stochastic Risk Modeling and Financial Hedging for Power-to-X Technologies in Volatile Energy Markets

Research Focus:

The PhD project develops a stochastic modeling framework to assess and mitigate market and operational risks in Power-to-X (PtX) systems. Her research focuses on optimizing power procurement through financial hedging instruments such as forwards, futures, and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to manage price volatility in renewable energy markets. Using probabilistic Monte Carlo simulation, the project forecasts market prices to capture uncertainties and correlations among key energy variables. It also investigates the flexible operation of Power-to-Gas systems integrated with biogas plants, evaluating their potential to improve efficiency, operational flexibility, and techno-economic performance under dynamic market conditions.

Key Technologies:

Stochastic modeling, Monte Carlo simulation, Power-to-X systems, process optimization, financial hedging, techno-economic analysis.

Applications:

Risk management in renewable energy markets, optimization of Power-to-X plants, and sustainable energy system integration.
