Abstract:
Continuous K-theory is an extension of algebraic K-theory introduced by A. Efimov which allows for new kinds of inputs, namely dualizable categories. After making a few recollections about the role of algebraic K-theory in geometric topology as pioneered by Wall, I will discuss how the continuous K-theory of categories of sheaves and related objects allows us to revisit some old theorems in geometric topology around the notion of simple homotopy.
