It will be marked with an event at Det Kgl. Bibliotek, where the book's author, Professor of Photography Studies Mette Sandbye, former fellow at the Nordic Humanities Center, and Head of Photography and photographer Sigrid Nygaard, Dagbladet Information, will discuss the book's theme:
Images of war are everywhere. But why do we need war photography when the daily bombardment of images from the world's conflicts threatens to make us blind, passive and indifferent? We are constantly bombarded with outrageous war images that are meant to inform, evoke emotion and move us to action. But image saturation can lead to image fatigue, where the constant exposure to war imagery makes us tired and desensitised. Where the gruesome images lose their power.
How should professional photographers work against this trend and how should we as humans deal with the blindness we can experience from the constant stream of war images?
Moderator: Tor Arnbjørn, science journalist.
