How is Mathematics structured?

The master’s programme in Mathematics takes two years to complete, and each academic year is divided into two semesters. There are opportunities for exchange stays and company projects during the course of study, and you have the chance to specialize in areas such as analysis and geometry, discrete mathematics, numerical analysis, or statistics.

In the semester overview below, you can see the structure of the education in tabular form. On small screens, the overview is best viewed in landscape format.

Choices and options

There is only one mandatory course in the entire programme. Therefore, you have excellent opportunities to shape your academic direction through elective constituent courses, activities putting the main subject into perspective, and thesis-preparatory activities. This also opens up particularly good opportunities to go on an exchange stay or engage in close collaboration with a business or organisation in a company project.

The 4th semester of the programme is dedicated to the thesis. Here, you can delve into a topic you are particularly interested in – whether through interdisciplinary work, in-depth research, or collaboration with a company where you contribute to solving real-world issues.

A typical week

Below is an example of what a teaching schedule might look like for a student in the first semester of the MSc programme in Mathematics. Teaching times and workload may vary from week to week, and as a rule, classes can be scheduled on weekdays between 8:15 AM and 6:00 PM.
