Making complex knowledge understandable is at the core of my work

Cecilie Hovitz Lautrup-Larsen holds an MA in English and works as a Communications Specialist at Alphalyse, a biotechnology company that supports the development of biological medicines. In her role, she translates complex professional knowledge into targeted communication for international partners.

"The teaching in rhetoric and stylistics made me aware of how much communication is about more than just the content itself. The crucial aspect is how knowledge is conveyed and whether the recipient actually understands it. For me, good communication is the ability to translate complex material so that it becomes clear and relevant to others.

This is precisely the challenge I work with as a communications specialist at Alphalyse. Here, I analyze and convey complex information in a way that considers the recipient's professional and cultural background. Alphalyse collaborates with international pharmaceutical manufacturers on the development of biological drugs such as vaccines, antibodies, and gene therapies for the treatment of rare and life-threatening diseases, and the communication must therefore be both precise and responsible.

In my first jobs after graduating, I mainly worked with text production, but today I am also involved in planning and evaluating the overall communication effort. This makes my work more complex and more meaningful.

I work with the company's communication strategy and produce content for social media, newsletters, press releases, and professional journals. The goal is both to strengthen Alphalyses' visibility and to convey knowledge about product quality and patient safety. At the same time, I act as a coordinator for internal communication projects, where I help ensure coherence and a shared direction across the organization.

An important part of my work is assessing how our communication performs in practice and adjusting it based on data and feedback. Right now, I am contributing to the development of a webinar where Alphalyses' latest research is presented to customers and partners. Here, I draw on my knowledge of literary narrative models, including Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey, to create a clear story that engages without oversimplifying the professional content.

In my first jobs after graduation, I primarily worked with text production, but today I am also involved in planning and evaluating the overall communication effort. This makes the work more complex and more meaningful. I am motivated by seeing how strategic communication can create value for the company—and ultimately for the patients treated with biological medicines."
