With a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Science at SDU, you will be able to:

• independently apply the theories and methods of one or more subject areas as well as engage with subject matters and methods within the field of research of said subject area
• plan and conduct scientific projects at a high academic level
• explain hypotheses from a qualified theoretical background and be critical towards your own and others’ research results and scientific models
• initiate and carry out academic and biological related interdisciplinary collaboration and take responsibility for your  own academic development and specialisations
• communicate research-based knowledge and discuss professional and scientific problems with both peers and non-specialists

Graduates with a Master’s degree in Data Science have knowledge of:

• theories and experimental methods in handling, analysing and presenting data
• tools, methods and techniques for analysing data – including data mining, machine learning and statistical analysis
• programming
• how data processing is carried out within a self-chosen area of specialization

Graduates are able to:

• understand, and on a scientific basis reflect on, knowledge pertaining to computer science and how to apply this knowledge
• identify scientific problems pertaining to the subject area
• select, apply and put together appropriate programming, statistics and machine learning tools and methods to work with large amounts of data in general and within a given area of specialization
• use and further develop these to design and perform complex data analyses and work with advanced data
• develop data analytics systems, taking privacy into account
• visualise data and explore it in a subject-specific context
• carry out complex work and to develop solutions in the field of data processing and analysis
• independently initiate and perform analyses and assume academic responsibility while considering IT ethical and IT security consequences,
• present the current knowledge regarding a number of important computer science challenges, discuss the limits of this knowledge, elucidate proposed hypotheses against a qualified theoretical background, and be critical of their own and others’ research results and scientific models

Students are given the opportunity to choose between several areas of specialization. Graduates have insight into how the basic elements of the programme are connected to the chosen area of specialization. Graduates also have knowledge about the subject area’s needs, opportunities and characteristics in the work with and processing of data.
