How is Artificial Intelligence structured?

The master’s programme in Artificial Intelligence is studied over 2 years, and each academic year is divided into 2 semesters. The programme is structured around mandatory courses, electives, and a master’s thesis, which you will write in the 4th semester.

The first year provides a strong technical, analytical and strategic foundation, focusing on AI in society and business, data and Big Data, advanced AI methods, cybersecurity, and programming. The second year offers greater flexibility, allowing you to specialise through electives and project topics.

Below, you can see an overview of the programme structure. If you start the degree in February, the master’s programme follows a slightly different progression, with the first and second semesters reversed.

Choices and options

In the Artificial Intelligence programme, you have the opportunity to shape your education through elective courses and project topics. You can also undertake a company project within a business or organisation to test your knowledge in practice.

Additionally, you have the option to go on an exchange programme and gain international experience.

In the 4th semester, you will complete your education with your master’s thesis.

There are several opportunities available to you if you are considering studying abroad as part of your master’s programme, and our international coordinator can help you find the perfect destination.

In Artificial Intelligence, we recommend studying abroad during the 3rd semester.

If you wish to combine your master’s studies in Artificial Intelligence with professional experience, you can choose a company project during the 3rd semester.

A company project is a well-defined collaboration with a company or organisation. You become part of the workplace’s daily operations, work alongside employees and apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges.

You can complete the company project as:

  • a 10 or 15 ECTS project alongside other study activities.
  • a 30 ECTS project equivalent to a full semester.

In Artificial Intelligence, you will work on your master’s thesis in the 4th semester. The master’s thesis is worth 30 ECTS credits and constitutes the final part of the programme.

In your master’s thesis, you will work independently on a topic of your own choosing, demonstrating your ability to identify, analyse and critically evaluate academic problems on a solid scientific foundation.
