Life as an International Business Administration, Language and Culture student

At International Business Administration, Language and Culture you’ll be a part of a close-knit academic community where small classes, dedicated lecturers and a strong sense of belonging create space for curiosity and personal growth. You’ll meet fellow students who share your passion for languages and cultures and for exploring new ways of understanding the world.

Study groups are an important part of student life, and in the first semester we help you form groups based on your expectations, while supporting you in getting a strong and confident start.

The programme offers a unique opportunity to sexperience two different campuses: SDU Sønderborg at Alsion and the German campus at Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF). At Alsion, teaching is informal and you’re often on a first-name basis with lecturers, while in Flensburg, you'll use the polite and more formal Sie-address.

Societies and events

Student life at SDU Sønderborg is about much more than books. You can join student associations, social events and creative clubs and take part in activities in both Sønderborg and Flensburg improving your Danish, German and English skills.

At the German campus, you can join the student association Fachschaft, which organises everything from Christmas gatherings and cabin trips to pub crawls and social events across year groups. Additionally, EUF also offers Campus Career Workshops, coaching and excursions that provide practical tools for your studies and future career.

Facilities

As a student on the International Business, Language and Culture programme, you’ll spend much of your time at SDU Sønderborg. The campus offers a library, study and reading areas for focused work and collaboration, as well as common spaces for relaxation and socialising with fellow students.

Campus Alsion is more than just a university building – it’s a vibrant hub where education, culture, research and business meet. As a bonus, the building houses one of Northern Europe’s finest concert halls for classical symphonic music.

Transport between Sønderborg and Flensburg

If you live in Flensburg – a great advantage when studying German in the border region – you can use the shuttle bus between Flensburg and Sønderborg on days when classes are held at SDU. The shuttle service is primarily funded by SDU and EUF, with a small personal contribution.

If you live in Sønderborg, there is no shuttle bus, but you can travel to Flensburg using options such as the Danish Rejsekort on days when classes take place there.

Shared facilities on campus

Sønderborg is a large campus with many facilities that you have access to as a student, including

  • Reading room that is open 24/7
  • A canteen with the best view in town
  • Friday bar
  • StartUp Station, an innovation and entrepreneurial environment.
