Morten Hulvej Rod has been Director of NIPH since March 2023. Before that, he was associated with the institute as Professor while holding a position as Head of Health Promotion Research at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen. Morten has previously worked as Head of the National Knowledge Center for Disadvantaged Children and Youth and Associate Professor and Research Programme Director at NIPH. Morten holds an MA and PhD in Anthropology from the University of Copenhagen (2010).

In his research, Morten has primarily dealt with health promotion and disease prevention, with a particular interest in children and young people, health inequity, and the methodological and theoretical aspects of intervention research and evaluation. Most recently, Morten has worked with the application of a complex systens lens in public health research. Morten is particularly interested in improving our understanding of the complex patterns and mechanisms that underlie health inequities, and how research through close interaction with practice can make a difference to real-world problems.

Morten is often invited to give presentations to decision-makers and professionals on topics such as prevention, complexity and health inequalities. As Director of NIPH, Morten is always interested in presenting the Institute's research and meeting with potential as well as existing collaborators.
