SDU Engineering Science Show - for primary schools

The show, primarily intended for elementary school students (8th - 10th grade ), will illustrate scientific phenomena in everyday life through visual entertainment and experiments: How do you make your own rocket fuel? How does a speaker or a radio work? What does sound look like when illustrated with flames? And can magnets float?

See what awaits you here...

Through the lecture and show, your students will gain an understanding for scientific principles and gain a better understanding for safety measures.

In the show, we demonstrate experiments such as:

  • Gauss’ rifle (magnetic gun)
  • Rubens’ flame tube (illustration of standing waves in a tube)
  • Van de Graaff generator (illustration of static electricity)
  • The cucumber grill (illustrates why electricity is dangerous)
  • Various experiments with liquid nitrogen (illustration of thermodynamics)
  • Speakers (simple electromagnetism)
  • Microwaves (ovens and how they work)
  • High-speed film sequences (can illustrate processes that are normally too fast to see)

No fixed dates.

The exact date will be determined in consultation with you. However, it is crucial to find a time when our students are ready to hold the workshop for you. We always do our best to accommodate your date preferences.

Contact us well in advance (at least 1-2 months before). This will allow us to find a date and put together a programme that best meets your wishes for the visit.
You don't need to prepare anything to participate in the workshop.

The show lasts around 45 minutes, and our engineering students aim to make the show as engaging for your students as possible, which means that your students might be asked to participate actively at times.

We hope that you, as the teacher, will actively participate on the day and help the instructors facilitate exercises and dialogue with the class. We also hope you will support the final evaluation so that we can continuously improve our programme.

Price

The activity itself is free. However, we charge a transportation fee if we need to visit you outside the Region of Southern Denmark. If you come to us, you will cover your own transportation costs.
