QNTM Labs is a contract laboratory working with a wide range of laboratory analyses. Where students once handled clearly defined support tasks, they have now become a central part of the laboratory’s core functions, and today QNTM employs nine student assistants.
This development has happened gradually. QNTM quickly realised that students were capable of taking on far more responsibility than what is traditionally associated with student jobs. As a result, the company began assigning them more complex tasks. Today, students perform simple analyses of samples, prepare them for further testing, and thereby contribute directly to accelerating the laboratory’s overall workflows. This enables full time employees to work more efficiently and complete tests and reports more quickly.
Students also play a role in customer communication. They are often the ones who contact customers when discrepancies arise during sample intake and ensure that data is continuously checked as the sample moves through the system. This requires both technical insight and strong communication skills — and QNTM finds that students deliver on both fronts.
The experience has been so positive that QNTM intends to maintain its high proportion of student employees, including international profiles. The company sees great potential in bringing new perspectives into the laboratory and further strengthening its professional environment. For QNTM, students are no longer a support function but a key function that contributes directly to the company’s development and capacity.
