Information for the police

Forensic assistance

A forensic pathologist can be called for clinical forensic examinations and crime scene investigations during working hours by calling:
 +45 6550 3000

Opening hours:

Monday–Thursday: 08.00–15.30
Friday: 08.00–15.00

Forensic assistance outside normal working hours

Outside normal working hours, the on-call forensic pathologist can be contacted for examinations of living persons – *clinical forensic examinations* (including both victims and suspects, adults and children) – at:
On-call phone: +45 7026 9392

It is not appropriate for the police to contact the rape crisis centres in Kolding and Odense directly to arrange examinations by a forensic pathologist. This contact must be handled by the forensic pathologist, who will plan the examination in a way that best accommodates the needs of the victim/suspect, the police, and the centres’ workflow.

Crime scene investigations outside normal working hours

Outside normal working hours, the on-call forensic pathologist can be contacted for crime scene investigations at:
On-call phone: +45 7026 9397

This contact must be coordinated with the National Forensic Centre West (NKC Vest). The best procedure is for the police district to ask NKC Vest to arrange the time and place for the examination.

The on-call forensic pathologist can, of course, also be contacted by the police for advice in ongoing cases.

Autopsies in the Faroe Islands and Greenland must be requested via the on-call officer at the National Forensic Centre.

Forensic chemistry assistance

The on-call chemist can be contacted for professional assistance during working hours at:
+45 6550 3000

Opening hours:

Monday–Thursday: 08.00–15.30
Friday: 08.00–15.00

Detention examinations and blood sampling in traffic cases

A forensic pathologist can be called for detention examinations and blood sampling in traffic cases for Fyn Police during working hours at:
 +45 6550 3000

Opening hours:

Monday–Thursday: 08.00–15.30
Friday: 08.00–15.00

Outside normal working hours, the on-call physician is contacted through the established duty roster. The duty schedule is available from the on-call officer at Fyn Police.

Service area

The Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Southern Denmark (RI/SDU), covers the Fyn and South and Southern Jutland police districts. The department also serves other police districts that require autopsies or clinical forensic examinations, where it is most practical for RI/SDU to handle the case.

Please note that the department’s service area is not identical to the Region of Southern Denmark. For example, the Triangle Region (the municipalities of Billund, Fredericia, Kolding, and Vejle) is part of the Southeast Jutland police district and is therefore served by the Department of Forensic Medicine in Aarhus.

RI/SDU also performs autopsies in the Faroe Islands and Greenland in collaboration with the departments in Copenhagen and Aarhus.
