Riitta Laitinen

Riitta Laitinen currently studies everyday urban space in seventeenth-century Turku. She focuses on practices connected to town borders, streets, taverns and homes and asks what kind of social rules directed people's everyday living in the town. She has defended her dissertation on Navajo place identity in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in 1999. Since then she has focused on early modern urban history. She has also written on early modern church history.
