In building the future of the metaverse, we need to understand virtual economies as they appear today, and how they will evolve in the future. Unfortunately, we have very little knowledge about how current metaverse economies work, or how creators engage with them.
SARMI is a worlds-first project in the space, spanning international academic partners working in lockstep with gaming- and metaverse giant Unity Technologies, are addressing this complex problem space by analyzing ultra-large-scale financial data from the $250bn games industry, uncovering the complex economics of virtual worlds.
This is allowing us to build an unprecedented understanding of how virtual economies work today and building business intelligence tools for creators enabling them to understand virtual economies. This is helping companies like Unity shape the tools that creators will need in the future to design and engage with complex virtual economies in a sustainable and responsible way. With 4 billion people spending a trillion hours per year playing games, the impact of shaping the economical future of the metaverse cannot be understated.
