Astrid has completed her PhD in Physics at the University of Jena in 2011. She has subsequently been a postdoc at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Canada and then a Junior Research Fellow at Imperial College, London. In 2016, she became an Emmy Noether Junior Research Group Leader at Heidelberg University and associate professor at SDU in 2019. Since 2023, she is full professor in theoretical physics.

Astrid has won several research fellowships and is currently a Villum Young Investigator. She has been awarded prizes for teaching and research and been elected to the German Young Academy in 2018, where she has served as a board member and as the academy’s chair.

She has founded the international seminar on asymptotic safety, the conference series on “Quantum spacetime and the Renormalization Group” and co-founded the International Society for Quantum Gravity.

Astrid is enthusiastic about outreach and has given numerous public talks, both locally and internationally. One of her recent outreach projects is the book “Young scientists” that a team from the German Young Academy published together with the Hanser publishing house (currently only available in German).
