Respiratory Research Unit (Vejle)

Collaboration

The research unit is anchored at IRS Lillebælt Hospital and is part of Department of Regional Health Research (IRS) under the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Southern Denmark

Many of the research projects conducted by The Respiratory Research Unit are based on clinical issues and needs identified among patients attending the Respiratory Outpatient Clinic and the Lung Cancer Diagnostic Pathway. Clinical drug trials sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry also constitute a significant part of the research activities, involving the investigation of new medicinal products for respiratory diseases and lung cancer.

Studies are selected based on clinical needs, scientific quality, feasibility, and their potential to improve diagnosis, treatment, or disease outcomes. The research portfolio is intended to include both common diseases and smaller, underserved patient populations.

Clinical drug trials require close collaboration with a wide range of internal and external partners. Internal partners include, for example, the laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology department at Vejle Hospital. External partners include SDU RIO, general practitioners, dentists, and specialist medical clinics.
