Newly appointed Head of Research

Consultant Mike Barnkob has been appointed Head of Research at the Department of Clinical Immunology. Although the position title is new, Dr. Barnkob is a well-known figure in the department. He succeeds his former mentor, Professor MD DMSc. Torben Barington, who will continue his work as Professor in the department.

Reflecting on his new role, Dr. Barnkob states:

“It is a great honor to assume the position of Head of Research at the Department of Clinical Immunology. I look forward to building upon the strong foundation established by Professor Barington and the department’s leadership, particularly within the important field of cell therapy and ATMPs. I am also eager to strengthen the department’s research within human immunology, for instance in the study of autoimmune diseases. Nearly all major medical advances arise when we understand the molecular mechanisms underlying disease, and immunology has a great deal to contribute in this regard. The establishment of the new OUH, along with the close collaboration with SDU and the growing biotech environment in Odense, provides many exciting opportunities. My hope is that, through collaboration with other departments at OUH, we can combine our various strengths and ultimately improve the lives of our patients. The Department of Clinical Immunology is home to many talented researchers, clinicians, and biomedical laboratory scientists, and I am proud to continue working alongside them and to call myself a ‘KIArian.’”
