ESGI 2013

This years European Study Group with Industry was held at Alsion in Sønderborg, Denmark.

ESGI (European Study Group with Industry) is Europe's leading workshop bringing together academic mathematicians and industrial companies. These week-long workshops have been held annually since 1968 and were previously known as the Oxford Study Groups with Industry, where they attracted leading mathematicians to work on industrial problems. In Denmark these workshops are conducted alternately at DTU and at SDU.

Companies bring to the Study Group mathematical questions they would like to have solved, often in the form of a modelling problem or an optimization issue. The mathematicians work in groups around each problem, presenting at the end of the week to the companies the result of their efforts, and afterwards a written report.

This years problems were:

Novo Nordisk A/S
Modeling uncertainty in clinical trials

Graintec A/S
Texture profile analysis of extruded fish feed

In connection there was also a summerschool.
