Our SMART Laboratory focuses on Sustainable, Multimodal, AI with Responsible Technologies, hence the acronym “smart” which is almost synonymous with “intelligent” and describes what we do, namely, research & development in smart and intelligent systems.
We are a part of the Centre for Software Technology (CST) at SDU Vejle, as well as the Maersk McKinney Moller Institute at SDU which includes the Software Engineering unit.
Our work in the SMART lab encompasses projects in knowledge-based systems, explainable AI, computer vision, multimodal models, resource-aware computing, Edge AI, health informatics, and the green transition.
We aim to enhance responsible AI with a range of work spanning fine-grained visual analysis, data-centric optimizations, medical data mining, commonsense knowledge, renewable energy, trustworthy solutions and more.
Our goals entail making AI-based solutions accessible & affordable with sustainability, whether they are mounted on Edge devices, used with robotics & cyber-physical systems, or geared towards general human-AI interaction and collaboration. This is obviously in addition to meeting the demands of accuracy and correctness in AI-based systems, as well as a multitude of challenges in implementing real-world software.
We value collaborative work across various avenues, e.g. hospitals for healthcare, industry partnerships in automation, and other educational institutions working with SDU. We love building smart systems with smart people in our SMART lab!
