Nanophysics/NPHYS

Course description:

Danish title:
Nanofysik/NPHYS

English title: Nanophysics/NPHYS

Credits: 5 ECTS

Prerequisites: INANO, WAQ, MICRO1

Aim:
This is the continuation of the course INANO, which gives an introduction to nanoscience. Therefore, this course is designed to give a deeper understanding of the principles of nanoscience and -engineering. Upon completing this course, the students will have a general knowledge of concepts in nanostructure physics.

Competences:
At the end of the course, the student is expected to be able to

  • Explain the uniqueness of different nano structured low-dimensional systems
  • Account for the charge transport properties in quantum wires and dots
  • Explain the functionality and scaling behaviour of nano-mechanical systems
  • Describe methods of nano-optical imaging
  • Account for the attractiveness of plasmons
  • Explain the physical concept of photonic crystals
  • Describes examples of nanostructure applications

Subjects covered:

  • Nanoelectronics
    • Low-dimensional electronic systems
    • Quantum Wires
    • Quantum Dots
  • Nanomechanical Resonators
  • Nano-Optics
    • Plasmons
    • Photonic Crystals
