Urban Lundberg on THE HISTORY OF SWEDISH DEVELOPMENT

In the 1960s, leading scholars like Gunnar Myrdal argued for expanding the scope of the welfare state beyond the national framework. In the same period, the Nordic countries developed assistance programs for the global south.
Based on his much-acclaimed book En svindlande uppgift: Sverige och biståndet 1945-1975 (2021, co-authored with Mattias Tydén and Annika Berg), NHC guest fellow Urban Lundberg will discuss the ideas and justifications for the development of one of the most ambitious development aid programs in the world.
Urban Lundberg is senior lecturer at Dalarna University. He is an expert on postwar Swedish history and has worked on topics such as Social Democracy and the welfare state, pension reform, development aid, citizen-state relations, and the history of eugenics in Sweden.
The workshop is open for all interested colleagues, students, and others. Please sign up for the workshop by email to: lenevivi@sdu.dk
