The conference will be opened by Minister for Higher Education and Science, Christina Egelund and Chairman of the Danish Delegation to the Nordic Council Lars-Christian Brask.
The world has changed drastically since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. We are experiencing a new threat landscape and an unpredictable situation that is changing many levels of society - perhaps forever.
In this conference, we bring together researchers, politicians and skilled professionals to discuss the geopolitical consequences of the war and present new perspectives on the significantly changed world order. How will the cultural field be included as an important factor? How do we wisely face the future with lessons learnt from history, and what opportunities does research have to contribute?

The researchers behind the conference are an interdisciplinary group from the University of Copenhagen and the University of Southern Denmark. Throughout 2025, the researchers have been affiliated with the Nordic Humanities Research Centre in a joint project "In the Shadow of War: Denmark, the Nordics and the Return of Geopolitics".
The conference is divided into three sessions with subsequent discussion:
Session 1 - The political impact of the Ukraine war in historical light
Session 2 - The impact of the Ukraine war on culture and the role of culture in preparedness
Session 3 - Professionals and politicians on the cultural and realpolitik challenges posed by the Ukraine War
Join us to hear important points from the research and contribute to the dialogue on the future of Denmark in a time of new and challenging conditions.
The conference takes place in the Parliament Hall "Landstingssalen" at Christiansborg Palace.
