Welcome Andreas Hjorth Alifrangis to DHFE

The section's first PhD student on the FreeFly project. He develops bio-inspired ornithopters for autonomous inspection of overhead power lines.

The Digital and High-Frequency Electronics Section (DHFE) has recruited Andreas Hjorth Alifrangis as its first PhD student on the FreeFly project.

Andreas will work on the development and optimization of bio-inspired ornithopter platforms for autonomous inspection and charging on overhead power lines. His research contributes to the next generation of nature-inspired aerial robotics, with the aim of making inspection and maintenance of critical infrastructure safer, more efficient and more sustainable.

The FreeFly project is funded by a Carlsberg Foundation Semper Ardens: Accomplish grant and aims to pioneer new capabilities for autonomous aerial systems operating in challenging environments. As part of the project, Andreas will investigate innovative flight mechanisms and energy-efficient solutions that can extend the reach of aerial robots in infrastructure inspection and maintenance.
