Who does what?

As a PhD student, you are enrolled at the PhD School, and your place of employment is at the department. That is, unless you are doing your PhD in collaboration with an external partner, with whom you are also employed. Therefore, you will find that the PhD School can help you with some aspects of your studies, while the department or your employer can help you with others.

At the PhD School, we can guide you through the framework for your studies – for example, the ongoing evaluations, the change of environment, course activities and submission of your thesis – while the department will assist you in completing this framework. That’s because the department is where you will be doing your day-to-day work and become part of the academic environment. If you are in doubt about who to turn to, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at the PhD School.

In addition to your supervisor, you will also meet your PhD coordinator at the department. He or she can help you with questions about the everyday life of PhD students at your department. If you aren’t sure who your PhD coordinator is, please find more information here.

At SDU’s library you will find Philoteket, an area dedicated to PhD students from all of SDU’s PhD Schools. Here, PhD cafés are held, featuring both academic and social content, including presentations that will help you make the most of your PhD course. At Philoteket, you can meet up with PhD students from other departments and faculties who are in the same boat as you. You can read more about Philoteket here, and you will find information about upcoming events here.

PAUSD represents PhD students from SDU at the national level. PAUSD is also a forum that welcomes discussions and reflections on all aspects of one’s PhD programme. Read more about PAUSD here.

A representative from both Philoteket and PAUSD will attend the introductory meeting whenever possible.
