If you enter into a cooperation agreement where you are primarily enrolled at a foreign institution, you must, as a starting point, complete the PhD programme in accordance with the guidelines and rules that apply at the foreign institution. However, this can be supplemented with additional requirements from the PhD School at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences at SDU.

You must, as a minimum, complete a study period at the PhD School at SDU for a duration of 6 months, have a supervisor from SDU attached and pass the faculty’s course in good scientific practice. In addition, your overall education must be assessed to be comparable to a Danish PhD programme by the PhD School.

This cooperation agreement must be entered into no later than 6 months after the commencement of your programme. Among other things, the agreement concerns supervision from the foreign institution, duration of stay at the foreign institution, agreement on assessment and defence and issuance of PhD certificate.

Your collaboration agreement must state how the procedure for completing the PhD course will be organised – including the composition of the assessment committee (cf. section 26 (1)), when the preliminary assessment must be available (cf. section 26 (2)), as well as when the defence is to take place (cf. section 26 (3)). The cooperation agreement must also state whether the thesis is to be defended in a joint defence, or whether two defences are to be held before the PhD degree is awarded to you from the cooperating foreign institutions (cf. section 15 (3) and section 26).
