The brain relies on a diverse group of cells called GABAergic interneurons to maintain balance and regulate communication between neurons. These specialized cells play a crucial role in brain function, and when they don’t work properly, they have been linked to epilepsy and cognitive deficits in many neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders. Despite their importance, we are only beginning to understand how these cells develop, connect, and adapt.

Dan Zahavi: Center for Subjectivity Research 2002-2024

Dan Zahvi talks about The Center for Subjectivity Research at the University of Copenhagen that was established in 2002 on the basis of a grant from the Danish National Research Foundation (Danmarks Grundforskningsfond). Its three founders were a philosopher, a psychiatrist, and a professor of systematic theology. Since then, it has had more than 80 employees, attracted more than 250 guest researchers, and secured external funding in excess of 140.000.000 DKK.

Understanding complex problems and creating change in complex systems. An interdisciplinary approach to public health research

Naja Hulvej Rod, Professor of Epidemiology and Director of the Copenhagen Health Complexity Center, and Morten Hulvej Rod, PhD, anthropology, Professor of health promotion and Director of the National Institute for Public Health have both worked with public health research for 20 years, but only started to work together when COVID-19 hit. In their presentation they have explained how coming from two different backgrounds has fuelled the development of a new framework for interdisciplinary knowledge production in relation to complex public health issues, such as health inequalities, obesity, and mental health.

Reidar Pedersen

Professor Reidar Pedersen is one of the leading scholars in ethics and communication in health care and has worked in this area since 2003. Among his many fields of expertise are questions concerning informed consent, end of life ethics, advance care planning, resource allocation, coercion and involvement of next of kin, especially in mental health care. His research includes qualitative and quantitative methods, intervention studies, systematic reviews, and theoretical and philosophical analyses, which has resulted in a large number of publications.
