Study EPICUR courses at SDU

EPICUR (European Partnership for an Innovative Campus Unifying Regions) is an alliance of nine universities across seven European countries. Together, we are shaping a new model of a European University that makes it easier for students and researchers to study, collaborate, and move freely across borders. Through EPICUR, students can explore a shared European campus and access a wide range of interdisciplinary courses offered by partner universities.

You can apply to take an EPICUR course, if you are a student at one of the other EPICUR partner universities:

• University of Amsterdam (NL)
• University of Freiburg (DE)
• University of Strasbourg (FR)

SDU offers a wide range of EPICUR courses within humanities, science, engineering, health sciences, and business & social sciences. The courses will be made available in EPICUR’s course catalogue during the application periods.

You can apply for EPICUR courses during the following application periods:

• Autumn courses: Apply in June
• Spring courses: Apply in November
• Summer courses: Apply in February/March

Exact application dates will be announced on the EPICUR website.

For courses offered by SDU, there is a two-step application process. You must complete both steps to be enrolled in an EPICUR course at SDU.

Step 1 – Apply to EPICUR

You must apply through EPICUR’s course catalogue (also called VURS):

• Log in with your university credentials
• Click ‘Apply now’ on the courses you wish to attend
• Upload the supporting documents (read more about these below).

After the application deadline, you will be notified by email whether your application has been accepted. If you are accepted, you will receive information on how to complete step 2 of the application process.

Step 2 – Apply to SDU

If your application is accepted, you will receive an email from SDU (epicur@sdu.dk) about the internal admission procedure. You will be asked to send an application and supporting documents through SDU’s application platform.

Applying for SDU’s EPICUR courses is a two-step application process (as explained under “How to apply”). Different document requirements apply to the two steps:

Documents needed for step 1 – Apply to EPICUR (VURS)

• Proof of enrolment at your home university
• Transcript of records (showing courses / credits completed at your home institution)
• Motivation letter or short statement explaining why you want to do the course(s)
• Proof of language proficiency

Documents needed for step 2 – Apply to SDU

• Transcript of records (showing courses / credits completed at your home institution)
• Proof of English proficiency
• Copy of passport/national ID

You must document English skills compared to the Danish B2 level in English. You can document your English proficiency in one of the following ways:

• EPICUR’s language requirement form: Filled out and signed by your home institution. Download the EPICUR language form (PDF)
• SDU’s language requirement form: Completed, signed, and stamped by you and your home university. Download SDU's language requirement form (PDF)
• TOEFL iBT or iBT Home Edition with a minimum score of 88 (maximum two years old at the time of application). We accept TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition. We do not accept MyBest scores.
• IELTS academic test with a minimum overall band score of 6.5 (maximum two years old at the time of application).
• C1 Advanced (CAE) with a minimum score of 180, C2 Proficiency (CPE) or ECPE from University of Michigan.
• By providing your secondary school leaving certificate (min. 210 hours at high school level), if you are an EU/EEA, Nordic, or Swiss citizen.

There is no course fee to study an EPICUR course. Costs related to course materials, e.g. books, are at your own expense.

If you attend an on-site course, you are responsible for covering transport, accommodation and daily costs during your stay. You may be able to apply for a scholarship for your participation in an on-site course.

SDU Accommodation Office offers assistance finding accommodation if you attend an on-site course. Please note that SDU does not guarantee housing. You are responsible for covering housing costs.

Recognition is not automatic and depends on your home institution. Please consult the relevant office or board of examiners at your faculty/study programme to verify whether ECTS earned from EPICUR courses can count towards your degree.
