Teacher of the Year Enthrals Audience

Associate Professor Bjarne Schmidt from the Mads Clausen Institute was on 4 October named best lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering.

The title of Teacher of the Year at TEK 2013 went to associate professor Bjarne Schmidt from the Mads Clausen Institute, who among several things, was praised for his excellent teaching of engineering students in physics and mathematics in Sønderborg. Along with the fine title follows 25,000 kroner. The prize was in keeping with tradition awarded when the University of Southern Denmark held its anniversary on 4 October.

A big pat on the shoulder from the students
Bjarne Schmidt is highly appreciated by the students who describe him as being a professional, skilled, humorous, creative, helpful and especially inspiring teacher – in short a superb communicator. He is known for always being there for the students, and there are no stupid questions in Bjarne Schmidt’s world.

In the nomination, that comes from the students and the Academic Study Board, it appears that Bjarne Schmidt holds a special ability to communicate, the often, difficult material in a pedagogical and enthusiastic manner. He manages to catch everyone’s attention and almost mesmerize the audience with quirky experiments and crooked ideas.

Creates a healthy study environment
In addition to his commitment in teaching, Bjarne Schmidt also influences the joint activities of the institute – for example he participates in the planning of the Science Festival.
Bjarne Schmidt has previously been recognized for his exceptional teaching abilities – as he is the only teacher who has received the BHJ Foundation’s Teaching Prize twice in 2009 and 2011.
