Esben Østergaard

Esben Østergaard earned his PhD in robotics in 2004 and co-founded Universal Robots with two fellow students in 2005. Universal Robots is behind collaborative robots that can work side by side with humans and has helped transform how robots are used in industry.

Universal Robots was sold to American company Teradyne in 2015 for 1.9 billion kroner and is now present in over 50 countries with more than 20 offices worldwide.

In 2018, Esben Østergaard received the Engelberger Robotics Award from the American robotics industry organization (RIA). The award recognized Universal Robots' collaborative robots as one of the most groundbreaking technological advancements in the robotics industry in decades.

Through innovation and investments, Esben Østergaard has contributed to the establishment of the Funen robotics cluster and to Odense's prominent position on the global stage for robotics technology.

Today, he is the CEO of REInvest Robotics, which he co-founded. REInvest Robotics invests in robotics companies aiming to make a positive difference in the world.
