About the department

We contribute knowledge that makes a difference in society.

The department has three main areas of work:

Forensic medicine

Supports the police with crime scene investigations and provides autopsy services for the police and the Danish Labour Market Insurance. The department also conducts clinical forensic examinations of living persons for the police and, in exceptional cases, for municipal authorities.

Forensic chemistry

Provides the police with toxicological analyses of samples from both living and deceased individuals, including threshold limit cases (§54) and drug influence assessments for the police and the Danish Customs Agency. In addition, the department performs toxicological analyses for the regional healthcare system.

Forensic anthropology

Assists the police, through the forensic pathology unit, with the examination of skeletal remains. The department also carries out research, public engagement and teaching based on a collection of around 16,000 skeletons stored on behalf of the museums. Read more at www.adbou.dk.
