Paolo Ceppi is a Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at the University of Southern Denmark.
He received his PhD from the University of Torino (Italy) in 2011. He then carried out postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Marcus Peter at the R.H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University in Chicago (USA). In 2015, he was appointed Junior Group Leader (equivalent to Assistant Professor) at the Interdisciplinary Center of Clinical Research (IZKF) at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen–Nürnberg (FAU), Germany. He then joined SDU in the summer of 2019 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2026.
In 2017 he received the Young Investigator Award from the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. His research has been supported by several competitive funding agencies, including the U.S. Department of Defense, the German Cancer Aid and the German Research Foundation, the Danish Independent Research Fund, the Novo Nordisk Foundation (Hallas-Møller Ascending Investigator Grant, 2021), the Danish Cancer Society, the Sygeforsikringen “Danmark” and the World Cancer Research Fund.
His research group investigates fundamental mechanisms of cancer biology using a combination of molecular and cellular biology, mouse models, high-throughput approaches, and the analysis of human tumor samples. The group focuses on identifying genes and molecular pathways that regulate cancer cell plasticity, differentiation, and aggressiveness, with particular emphasis on metabolic pathways and their role in therapy response. The long-term goal is to uncover new vulnerabilities in cancer cells that can be exploited for the development of more effective therapeutic strategies.
