Stine Bjerrum Møller appointed professor of clinical psychology and recovery in psychiatric practice at SDU

About the professorship

Stine Bjerrum Møller has been appointed professor of clinical psychology and recovery in psychiatric practice at the Department of Psychology, University of Southern Denmark. The professorship has been established in collaboration with Lillebaelt Hospital, where she is also head of research at the Department of Interdisciplinary Trauma Treatment.

Her research focuses on how clinical psychology and psychiatric practice can support personal recovery among people with mental health problems.

Through the development and evaluation of psychological treatments, patient involvement, and qualitative, quantitative and co-creative research methods, the professorship will generate new knowledge about treatments that not only reduce symptoms, but also strengthen hope, self-determination, relationships and participation in everyday life.

The professorship will also contribute to the development of more flexible and accessible treatment services, bringing research, clinical practice and patients’ own experiences closer together.

The research includes the treatment of long-term and difficult-to-treat depression, PTSD and complex trauma reactions. Digital solutions and new measurement tools for personal recovery are also key areas of development.

Where the professorship is based

The professorship is based at the Department of Psychology at the University of Southern Denmark and is also affiliated with the Department of Interdisciplinary Trauma Treatment at Lillebaelt Hospital.

Stine Bjerrum Møller has been an associate professor at the Department of Psychology at SDU since 2020 and will continue in her role as head of research at Lillebaelt Hospital. The professorship creates a close link between the University, research and clinical treatment in psychiatry.

The appointment took effect in 2026.

About her academic profile

For a number of years, Stine Bjerrum Møller has worked with clinical psychology, psychotherapy, psychiatry and recovery-oriented treatment. Her research focuses particularly on developing and evaluating psychological treatments and on developing measurement tools that reflect the changes patients themselves consider meaningful.

She graduated as a psychologist from the University of Copenhagen and obtained her PhD in psychology from the same university in 2011. She is a licensed psychologist, a specialist in psychotherapy and clinical psychology, and a specialist psychologist in psychiatry.

She has previously worked as a clinical psychologist, chief psychologist and head of research in the Mental Health Services in the Capital Region of Denmark. She collaborates extensively with clinical and academic research environments in Denmark and internationally, including the University of Nottingham, and takes part in research networks focusing on personal recovery, psychotraumatology and psychological measurement tools.

As a professor, she also aims to strengthen the research environment by creating a supportive framework for students, PhD students and early-career researchers, allowing research, education and clinical practice to develop in close interaction.

Teaching

Stine Bjerrum Møller teaches on the psychology degree programme at SDU, primarily in Odense and also in Esbjerg. Her teaching includes clinical psychology, K02 Communication Skills Training, K06 Applied Psychotraumatology and qualitative methods.
