4,279 applicants have been offered a student place at SDU
Following a high level of interest in SDU’s bachelor's degree programmes, this year’s figures for student places show that SDU remains a popular choice among applicants. Despite stricter admission requirements, the university is offering almost as many student places as last year.
On Tuesday 28 July, 4,279 applicants were offered a student place at the University of Southern Denmark via the Coordinated Enrolment System.
This is 136 fewer than last year, representing a 3 per cent decrease. This result should be viewed in the context of the university having tightened its admission requirements this year for both Quota 1 and Quota 2.
– We are pleased with this year’s result. SDU has tightened the requirements for applicants this year, and fewer places have been offered on several degree programmes. Nevertheless, we are offering almost as many places as last year, says Stinne Hørup Hansen, deputy director of studies at SDU.
– For us, it is not just about how many places we offer, but also about attracting students who are a good fit for the programmes and creating a good environment in which they can thrive, complete their studies and develop the skills that society needs. This year’s intake figures show that SDU is going from strength to strength across our campuses and remains an attractive university for ambitious students, she emphasises.
The new campus in Vejle is driving growth in the natural sciences
The high level of interest in SDU’s new campus in Vejle, which was also evident at the 5 July application deadline, is now reflected in the figures for places offered.
The Faculty of Science has seen the greatest growth among SDU’s faculties, with 7 per cent more places offered than last year. This growth is largely linked to the new campus in Vejle, where 219 applicants have been offered a place on four new degree programmes in IT, artificial intelligence and software.
At Campus Vejle, 66 applicants have been offered a place on the Artificial Intelligence programme and 88 on the Computer Science programme. In addition, 47 have been offered a place on the Master of Science in Software Engineering programme and 18 on the Master of Science in Interactive Technology Engineering programme, both of which fall under the Faculty of Engineering.
Differences across faculties and campus cities
This year’s figures also reveal differences across SDU’s faculties and campus cities.
The Faculty of Humanities and SDU Business School have fewer places on offer than last year, whilst the other faculties have seen minor changes. The Faculty of Health Sciences is slightly above last year’s level, whilst the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering are slightly below.
Geographically, Campus Esbjerg has seen the greatest increase, with 55 per cent more places offered than in 2025. This increase is mainly due to the fact that the medical programme in Esbjerg now also includes the bachelor's component. This also explains part of the decline in Odense.
Campus Sønderborg has fewer places on offer than last year, as do Campus Kolding and Campus Odense. This year, 29 per cent of SDU’s places on offer are outside Odense, compared with 24 per cent last year. This trend is linked, amongst other things, to the establishment of Campus Vejle and shifts in the number of places offered across SDU’s campuses.
