Laboratories

Laboratories

The section focuses on creating a dynamic environment for research activities as well as meaningful collaboration between students, researchers, and industry partners. Our laboratories are designed to support interdisciplinary work within key research domains, including digital supply chains, technology entrepreneurship, and sustainable innovation. By integrating advanced technologies with hands-on experimentation, these spaces enable the development, testing, and validation of new ideas in realistic yet controlled settings.

To support these focus areas, we have established the following lab environments:

The Simulation Lab

The Simulation Lab provides a dedicated space for advanced computer modeling and simulation. Here, we can model anything from production cells, production systems, to intricate supply chains. By using simulation software, we can create, test, improve, and communicate solutions in virtual models. This allows us to work in a secure and risk-free environment, while exploring multiple scenarios to find better solutions quickly and cost-effectively.

Our team of experts and researchers uses the latest software and technology to develop custom simulations that are tailored to meet industry’s unique needs. Our lab specializes in three main areas: process simulation, plant simulation, and supply chain simulation. By using these types of simulation, we can help companies to enhance internal and external operations and provide valuable insights to optimize their supply chains.

The Innovation Lab

The Innovation Lab serves as a hands-on experimental space where research, teaching, and industry collaboration intersect. It is equipped with a wide range of advanced technologies that support prototyping, testing, and analysis of modern production and entrepreneurial solutions.

The lab includes technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and extended reality (XR), collaborative robot arms, digital twin systems, and small-scale production lines capable of generating and capturing real-time data. These tools enable users to explore and validate new technological setups, processes, and business concepts.

Student projects play a central role in the Innovation Lab, where coursework related to production technologies, digitalization, and innovation is carried out. The lab fosters experiential learning by allowing students to work directly with industry-relevant tools and challenges.

Lab Capabilities

Across our laboratory environments, we offer a broad set of capabilities that support both research and education:

  • Virtual and augmented reality for analysing immersive user experience, digital prototyping of products and production systems
  •  Computer simulation for modelling and optimizing production systems and supply chains
  • Data science tools for advanced data analytics and decision support
  • Digital twin technologies for in-depth system analyses

Together, these laboratories form a cohesive ecosystem that bridges theory and practice, enabling innovation, experimentation, and collaboration at the intersection of technology, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.
