The SDU Flight Lab is part of SDU Drone Center and is located at HCA Airport near Odense.
In 2026 the laboratories were renamed SDU Flight Lab replacing SDU UAS Test Center.
Originally, the 2200m2 airport hangar was purchased by University of Southern Denmark in 2016 and a total renovation of the premises was initiated to house the state-of-the-art laboratories, test, and development facilities that we find today.
UAS-ability and the Danish National Drone Strategy of 2016
In September 2016 the first Danish National Drone Strategy was launched, resulting in the upcoming of SDU UAS Test Center (now SDU Flight Lab), UAS-ability, and UAS Denmark (now UAS Denmark International Test Center).
SDU UAS Test Center was initially supported by the Danish government as part of the UAS-ability project - a collaboration between Danish universities, with the aim to ensure a national research infrastructure for drones.
UAS Denmark Test Center
SDU Drone Center is a partner of UAS Denmark International Test Center, a national organisation for over 150 drone companies formed by partners Odense Municipality, HCA Airport, and University of Southern Denmark.
Together the partners of UAS Denmark coordinate activities under the umbrella known as UAS Denmark Test Center in order to develop the potential and possibilities for the international as well as Danish drone industry.
