About SDU Software Engineering

Maersk 2 building at SDU Campus Odense

The Software Engineering section do research, innovation and teaching activities in the fields of software engineering, software technology and system development. The unit was formed in 2017 to strengthen the focus on software and software engineering building on both new recruitments and bringing expertise together from other groups (e.g. in artificial intelligence, applied informatics and robotics).

The unit’s aim is to research, develop and disseminate effective and efficient methods to support high quality and rapid software development of complex and safety-critical systems. The means to achieve this is through use-inspired basic and applied research based on constructive and evidence-based methods that contributes scientifically to the field of Software Engineering and to the surrounding society.

Specifically, the units investigate and teach modern processes, methods, and tools that provide the basis for developing high quality, high value, people-oriented software for a variety of academic and industrial purposes. This includes modeling complex systems, new methods for software development, software quality, software technologies and process improvement for established organizations and start-ups implementing or developing software systems.

The Software Engineering Section collaborates broadly with national and international partners in both the industry and with other universities. The collaborations unfold in research projects and through participation in a range of academic and industry networks.

The unit together with the Centre for Software Technology in Vejle and the Centre for Industrial Software in Sønderborg form the software engineering units at SDU.
