As a section, we’re especially proud of how our research on sustainable and regenerative supply chains has helped set the agenda on challenges facing suppliers in the Global South — challenges overlooked in supply chain scholarship.
Over more than fifteen years, the support from DANIDA‑DFC and DEG has made this possible through supporting our research projects in Bangladesh, Uganda and Myanmar.
Our projects have reshaped how the field understands the sustainability issues faced by suppliers in the Global south. Through hands‑on intervention research, we have contributed to enhance productivity, improved working conditions and a reduced environmental including reduced CO₂ emissions in global supply chains.
More recently, we have pioneered research on the informal sector, opening doors into a world supply chain management has not entered before. Our work spans garments, tanneries, coffee, flowers and plastic waste, to mention a few sectors only.
We also take strong pride in having been early movers in applying thermal drones in Global South supply chains. In Europe, our section is recognized as a leader in occupational health and safety research. Research made possible by generous support the EU and other major donors. And we take equal pride in embedding sustainability at the core of the engineering program, Global Management and Manufacturing (GMM).
