Moore's law is running out of steam. But what if the computers of the future didn't have to fight physics, but could work with it instead? On June 29, Dr. Jens Egholm Pedersen visits SDU to show how light and brain-inspired chips can pave the way for a whole new generation of energy-efficient computing.

In the lecture Aligning Physics with Computation: Towards a Physically Faithful Compiler, Dr. Pedersen presents how new computational paradigms, including photonic and neuromorphic technologies, can help address the scaling challenges of traditional computer architectures. Instead of forcing physics into our abstractions, he asks: How do we build a compiler that is faithful to physics?

From compilation to AI acceleration

The lecture highlights new approaches to compilation, asynchronous signal processing, and energy-efficient data processing, with a particular focus on AI acceleration. Energy consumption has become one of the biggest bottlenecks in modern AI, and this is where physically grounded computational models could make a decisive difference.

About the speaker

Dr. Pedersen is a postdoc at the Technical University of Denmark, where he researches physically grounded computational models. His research has been recognized through several international awards and research grants.
