Research areas

The research unit is a part of Department of Regional Health Research, University of Southern Denmark, and was established in 2017 at the Neurology Department, SLA

The center includes research in general neurology, and in addition to clinical neurology promotes collaboration with other clinicians and researchers in neuroscience, immunology, radiology, pathology and laboratory medicine. The research approaches involve translational studies and neuro-imaging as tools in the elucidation of disease processes.

The center focuses on translational research within inflammatory demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) in collaboration with Department of Neurobiology Research, Institute of Molecular Medicine, SDU. This collaboration promotes the understanding of disease mechanisms, which can lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment of patients.

In addition, the aim of the center is to promote research in other diseases such as neurovascular diseases, currently in the form of a multidisciplinary study of the consequences of stroke. Furthermore, a multidisciplinary collaboration has been established with focus on immunological aging in patients with chronic diseases and multiple disease.

Adjunct professor

Professor Brian Weinshenker, from the Department of Neurology, Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, USA is affiliated with CNF.
