Hospital Pharmacy Research Unit (HoPRU)

About us

The Hospital Pharmacy Research Unit (HoPRU) was established in May 2022 as a research unit within the Hospital Pharmacy at the Hospital of Southern Jutland.

Our current main research area is clinical pharmacy, with a particular focus on optimising medication use in close collaboration with clinical departments – particularly across care transitions. We focus on practice-based research related to the use of medicines, both during hospital admission and after discharge.

A new and growing research area in HoPRU is sustainability, where we explore how pharmaceutical practices intersect with environmental concerns.

Our research includes the development of clinical pharmacy services at departmental level, coordination across care sectors, patient safety, and analysing medicine-related trends using registry data. We are a small research team working with both qualitative and quantitative methods.

HoPRU’s key strategic priority is to ensure synergy between clinical practice and research. Our projects are driven by real-world challenges encountered in daily clinical practice at the hospital pharmacy and in the clinical departments at the Hospital of Southern Jutland. At the same time, insights from research projects are implemented directly into pharmacy practice.

In addition to conducting research, HoPRU also contributes to advancing hospital pharmacy as a research field – nationally, internationally, and locally – by participating in various committees and professional forums.
