About Center for Energy Informatics

The SDU Center for Energy Informatics is an internationally oriented research and innovation hub at the University of Southern Denmark dedicated to engineering the digital infrastructure that underpins modern energy ecosystems. Through this work, the Center advances the digital infostructure that will form the intelligent, interoperable, and resilient backbone of sustainable and secure energy systems worldwide.

The Center develops scalable AI-driven software architectures that enable intelligent, secure, and interoperable operation of buildings, industries, district heating systems, electric power grids, and sector-coupled energy networks.

Through its research, the Center contributes to the formation of next-generation digital infostructures for energy, advancing architectural principles for resilience, interoperability, and digital sovereignty. At the same time, it designs and deploys novel AI-based digital solutions within real-world projects to improve energy efficiency, operational flexibility, and market integration. These project-driven innovations serve both as practical impact mechanisms and as building blocks in the evolving digital infrastructure of critical energy systems.

The Center actively contributes to European and international energy research agendas on grid digitalization, sector coupling, flexibility markets, and infrastructure resilience. Through large-scale collaborations, industry partnerships, and participation in international research programs, it advances both the conceptual and operational foundations of digital energy systems.

Working closely with technology providers, utilities, municipalities, and global research networks, the Center maintains a broad and diverse project portfolio that spans foundational infrastructure research and applied AI-based system optimization.

Our mission is clear: to engineer and advance the digital infostructure that enables sustainable, resilient, and economically viable critical energy ecosystems in Europe and beyond.
