Documentation for Language Proficiency

You fulfil the requirements if you have passed English B from a Danish High School with a minimum grade of 2.0 on the Danish 7-point grading scale.  

Please be aware that a few programmes have special language/entry requirements as listed below.

Your diploma from an EU/EEA high school may be sufficient to prove your language proficiency:

• You must document the number of 60 minutes English lessons per school year, and the number of years you have attended high school.
• To do this, you must use SDU's Statement of Hours which must be signed and stamped by your high school and submitted along with your full high school diploma and transcript of records showing the grades you received during the last three years of high school.
• English as a subject must be passed with a grade equivalent to a minimum of 2.0 on the Danish 7-point grading scale.

Please be aware that a few programmes have special language/entry requirements as listed below.

Pre-assessment

We strongly encourage you to forward your documentation in advance via the contact form SPOC. Then we can make a pre-assessment of your qualifications.

We accepts the following language tests as proof of your proficiency. Please be aware that we must be able to verify your test results with the relevant test organisation no later than the application deadline. 

• TOEFL iBT or iBT Home Edition with a minimum score of 88 (maximum 2 years old at the time of application). We accept TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition. We do not accept MyBest scores or TOEFL Essentials. 
• IELTS academic test with a minimum overall band score of 6.5 (maximum 2 years old at the time of application). We accept IELTS Academic Online, but not IELTS One-skill Retake.
• C1 Advanced (CAE) with a minimum score of  180 or C2 Proficiency (CPE) - both from a Cambridge Network or from the University of Michigan.

A few programmes have special language/entry requirements as listed below.

Bachelor's degree

You fulfil the English requirements if you have completed a Bachelor's degree in either Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, UK or Ireland. 

Please note, that your entire Bachelor’s programme (equivalent to a Danish Bachelor’s degree of 180 ECTS) must have been taught in English within the relevant country.  Programmes from affiliated universities abroad, or long-distance programmes will not count as proof of your English level. 

High school/upper secondary education

You may fulfil the English requirements if you have completed a high school or upper secondary education in one of the six countries. You must upload your diploma in the application portal in order for us to evaluate whether your high school English is sufficient to meet our requirements.

Admission to the programme English Studies requires that your English language proficiency is English A or equivalent.

You can prove your proficiency by: 

• English A from a Danish High School with a minimum grade of 2.0 (Danish 7-point grading scale), or a corresponding level from a European high school.
• TOEFL iBT or iBT Home Edition with a minimum score of 100 (maximum 2 years old at the time of application). We do not accept MyBest scores or TOEFL Essentials.
• IELTS academic test with a minimum overall band score of 7,0 (maximum 2 years old at the time of application). We accept IELTS Academic Online, but not IELTS One-skill Retake.
• C1 Advanced (CAE) or C2 Proficiency (CPE) with a minimum score of 185 - both from a Cambridge Network or from the University of Michigan.
