International students strengthen miniBOOSTER’s access to global markets

At miniBOOSTER Hydraulics in Sønderborg, international students contribute language skills, a global outlook, and plenty of energy, all valuable resources that strengthen the company’s work with customers across international markets.

This case is based on an article from GOTO Sønderborg.

miniBOOSTER Hydraulics develops and supplies hydraulic equipment used around the world, including in cranes, construction machinery and tunnel-boring machines. As a result, international customer engagement is a core part of the company’s business.

The company currently employs five international student assistants. They contribute not only additional capacity, but also skills and perspectives that strengthen customer relationships across markets.

These young people bring an international mindset and a great deal of energy. They help us reach customers globally.

Language as a gateway to new markets

One of the student assistants is Carlos Herrero Sanchez from southern Spain. He moved to Denmark to study Software Engineering at SDU in Sønderborg and works 12 hours a week at miniBOOSTER.

His primary responsibility is selling hydraulic equipment to companies in Spain and South America, a role that naturally takes place in his native language, Spanish. This enables miniBOOSTER to engage with customers in their own language and with a cultural understanding that helps strengthen relationships and communication.

In this way, Carlos’s international background becomes a practical asset in the company’s sales efforts. At the same time, his language skills and market knowledge support the business and provide access to competencies that may be difficult to source locally.

Key takeaways for other companies and organisations

  • International students can strengthen customer dialogue in markets where language skills and cultural understanding are important.
A student job can provide access to valuable international competencies while giving students experience of the Danish labour market.
Job-matching platforms such as GOTO JobMatch and the SDU Jobbank can help connect companies with international students.

A student job that creates value for both sides

Carlos found the position through the GOTO JobMatch app, GOTO Sønderborg’s job platform, where he created a profile and came across miniBOOSTER’s vacancy. He then contacted the company directly and started the job shortly afterwards.

“I’m really happy working here. Everyone is so helpful, and I learn a great deal at miniBOOSTER,” says Carlos Herrero Sanchez.

The student job creates value for both parties. For Carlos, it provides an opportunity to apply his language skills in practice and gain experience from the Danish labour market. For miniBOOSTER, it offers access to international competencies that strengthen the company’s core business.

miniBOOSTER’s experience demonstrates that international students can be a strategic resource when their skills are actively utilised. This is particularly relevant for companies where customer dialogue, sales activities and market insight extend across national borders.

International students can bring new perspectives, language skills, and cultural understanding to businesses and organisations, even while they are still studying.
