Mike Bogetofte Barnkob has been appointed Associate Professor at CITCO
Mike Bogetofte Barnkob has been appointed Associate Professor at CITCO in a joint position between the Clinical Department at the University of Southern Denmark and the Department of Clinical Immunology at Odense University Hospital. Dr. Barnkob has already played a pivotal role in the establishment and development of CITCO, contributing significantly to its current standing. His appointment as Associate Professor formally recognizes these contributions and further reinforces his position as a principal investigator at CITCO.
Dr. Barnkob is a highly accomplished clinician-scientist with a DPhil from the University of Oxford and specialized expertise in T cell immunotherapy. He currently holds a Lundbeck Foundation Early-Career Clinician Scientist Fellowship and serves as a specialist registrar at Odense University Hospital. His work bridges basic immunology with clinical application, particularly in the development and in-house GMP-grade production of CAR T-cell therapies, including preparations for a Phase I clinical trial. With research experience at world-leading institutions such as MIT and Oxford, Dr. Barnkob has authored impactful publications, including in Nature Communications . His innovative research projects explore bispecific CARs and next-generation immunotherapies. He has independently secured competitive funding exceeding 18 million DKK. In addition to his scientific leadership, Dr. Barnkob is an active educator, curriculum developer, and mentor. His contributions also include organizing major academic events and engaging in scientific outreach. His strong translational focus and interdisciplinary collaboration make him a key figure in advancing cellular immunotherapy at CITCO.
